Freight transportation plays a critical role in improving company performance in the modern manufacturing industry. To reduce costs, companies must take advantage of the use of large vehicles. It caused fewer deliveries, but inventory costs and degradation quality are high. One of the joint economic lot size problems in supply chain is Integrated Single-Vendor Single-Buyer Inventory Problem. This study developed the I-SVSB-IP model that considers raw materials’ exponential quality degradation and transportation costs. The objective function of this research was to (...) maximize the Joint Total Profit. Three decision variables used were inventory cycle time, raw material ordering frequency, and frequency of delivery of finished products to buyers. This study proposed a sophisticated Chimp Optimization Algorithm procedure to solve the I-SVSB-IP problem. A case study on the food industry in Indonesia was presented to optimize the I-SVSB-IP. The results showed that the ChOA procedure had produced an optimal solution compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm. This study also demonstrated a sensitivity analysis of decision and transportation variables to cost, revenue, and JTP. The results show that increasing transport frequency of ordering raw materials and finished products to buyers enhances the total cost and reduces joint total profit. In addition, increasing the rate of quality degradation of raw materials reduces JTP. (shrink)

Personal social guidance and counseling program can be an alternative tool to foster social entrepreneurship in junior high school students. The programs are carried out to map students’ personal social problems that can strengthen students’ personal and social character. Junior high school students as the Z generation were chosen because they will be Indonesia’s demographic bonus. The development of students’ thinking stages starting from concrete to abstract thinking patterns has the potential to be filled with fostering social entrepreneurship characters. This study aims to analyze the relevant theoretical studies about the relationship between social entrepreneurship and social personal guidance and counseling program. Based on the literature study that has been conducted, it was revealed that guidance and counseling program can be applied to the activities of junior high school students that is in line with the development of the times through mapping and targeted and programmed guidance. The program is carried out by looking at the potential possessed by students, then categorized into stages of social entrepreneurship. Counselors can provide assistance according to the characteristics possessed by the students. The social entrepreneurship framework that is developed consists of social values, community environment, innovation and economic activities in an effort to make social change. This program has the potential to optimally develop the social entrepreneurship of students to become agents of social change and provisions to fill Indonesia’s demographic bonus in 2045. (shrink)

What does it mean to be vulnerable in a pandemic? COVID-19 and its complex ramifications have challenged policymakers and researchers worldwide to redefine and reassess vulnerability. This paper presents experiences of being vulnerable during the pandemic among communities in Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam. From November 2020 to April 2021, we conducted qualitative research with communities in 13 locations including Jakarta, Bandung and Sumba in Indonesia; Morang & Sunsari, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Sindulpalchowk, Lower Mustang and Kapilvastu in Nepal; and Hanoi, Ho Chi (...) Minh City, Nam Dinh and Dak Lak in Vietnam. We held discussions with key informants from local communities and healthcare systems to explore local ideas of vulnerability. Based on these discussions and findings from our media monitoring at all study locations, community members at high risk of adverse impacts from the pandemic were identified. Participants were purposively sampled to represent a range of age groups, occupations and levels of exposure to COVID-19 in the community and enrolled in semi-structured in-depth interviews about their experiences with the pandemic and public health responses. We analyzed and framed the results using Luna’s metaphor of “vulnerability layers”. In total we held discussions with 16 key informants from local communities and healthcare systems and collected 93 in-depth interviews with community participants. Using the “vulnerability layers” metaphor, we describe how stimulus conditions, namely stringent public health responses to COVID-19, may aggravate vulnerabilities a person already experiences or create new vulnerability experiences (for example, stigmatized status). A vulnerable experience can be exacerbated by the layering of multiple vulnerabilities or their cascade effects; on the other hand, it can be mediated by personal or collective protective factors. Our findings also demonstrate the role of context, including local disease control approaches and sociocultural attitudes and norms, in both the activation of and protection against vulnerability. Vulnerability assessments should take into account potential stimulus conditions (including public health responses) and local complexities rather than relying on groupings of impacted people. An understanding of the local context is also essential to improve the uptake and effectiveness of public health measures. (shrink)

The scarcity of resources during the COVID‐19 pandemic caused ethical dilemmas in prioritizing patients for treatment. Medical and ethical guidance only emphasizes clinical procedures but does not consider the sociocultural aspect. This study explored the perception of former COVID‐19 patients and their families on the decision‐making process of the patient's selection at a time of scarcity of resources. The result will inform the development of an ethical guide for allocating scarce resources that aligns with Indonesian culture. We conducted qualitative research (...) with in‐depth interviews between May ‐ December 2022 involving sixteen participants from various cities in Indonesia. We transcribed the interviews and analyzed the results using thematic analysis. This study found that doctor's decisions often differed from patient's expectations in allocating scarce resources, and therefore, it should be communicated appropriately. Medical decisions were not sufficiently made ethically, but must also be made communicatively. In Indonesia's strong communal culture, community involvement was essential to distributing limited resources. A better approach to ethical education, including adequate communication skills, is necessary to prepare health professionals for facing unpredictable future pandemics. (shrink)

Subjects in this research are 100 pregnant mothers of first child which live in Tangerang. The result is strong positive correlation between support from husband and self adjustment at the first pregnancy.

As a theory of skill acquisition, the instance theory of automatization posits that, after a period of training, algorithm‐based performance is replaced by retrieval‐based performance. This theory has been tested using alphabet‐arithmetic verification tasks (e.g., is A + 4 = E?), in which the equations are necessarily solved by counting at the beginning of practice but can be solved by memory retrieval after practice. A way to infer individuals’ strategies in this task was supposedly provided by the opportunistic‐stopping phenomenon, according (...) to which, if individuals use counting, they can take the opportunity to stop counting when a false equation associated with a letter preceding the true answer has to be verified (e.g., A + 4 = D). In this case, such within‐count equations would be rejected faster than false equations associated with letters following the true answers (e.g., A + 4 = F, i.e., outside‐of‐count equations). Conversely, the absence of opportunistic stopping would be the sign of retrieval. However, through a training experiment involving 19 adults, we show that opportunistic stopping is not a phenomenon that can be observed in the context of an alphabet‐arithmetic verification task. Moreover, we provide an explanation of how and why it was wrongly inferred in the past. These results and conclusions have important implications for learning theories because they demonstrate that a shift from counting to retrieval over training cannot be deduced from verification time differences between outside and within‐count equations in an alphabet‐arithmetic task. Charles Peirce provided a few, but interesting we believe, remarks about metaphor. Aristotle on the other hand developed a theory of metaphor that, to this day has been, and still is, influential (even though his theory, especially within recent years, also has been heavily criticized, e.g., by Lakoff, George & Mark Johnson. 1980. Metaphors we live by. Chicago: Chicago University Press). Factor, Lance R. 1996. Peirce’s definition of metaphor and its consequences. In Vincent Colapietro & Thomas Olshewsky (eds.), Peirce’s doctrine (...) of signs: Theory, applications, and connections, 229–235. Berlin/new York: Mouton De Gruyter, as one of very few scholars, makes a comparison between Peirce and Aristotle. Factor claims that Peirce’s definition of metaphor and its consequences undermine and overturn Aristotle’s theory. We do not believe that Factor is right; and this is due to Factor’s misinterpretation of key elements within Aristotle’s theory. We rather believe that Peirce and Aristotle, in fact, have central ideas in common concerning metaphor; perhaps, in particular, when it comes to the function of metaphor. Hence, both see, for example, metaphor as a cognitive mechanism. The article tries to develop this argument. (shrink)

In his foreword to the Philosophical papers by Hans Hahn, Karl Menger mentions a controversy about the possibility or impossibility to speak about language within the Vienna Circle in the early 1930’s. He then adds: “Waismann proclaimed that one could not speak about language. Hahn took strong exception to this view. Why should one not – if perhaps in a higher-level language – speak about language? To which Waismann replied essentially that this would not fit into the texture of Wittgenstein’s (...) latest ideas.”1 Thanks to the publication of the protocols of the Vienna Circle by Friedrich Stadler in his book The Vienna Circle – Studies in the origins, development and influence of logical empiricism, we have access to some discussions within the circle in the years 1930 and 1931, that allow us a partial reconstruction of the controversy. In these minutes we attend a very lively discussion on the topic of ‘talking about language’. We would like to make more explicit the tenets of this controversy, starting from the discussions within the circle. We will then focus on the evolution of the positions of different members of the Circle, that reflect different attitudes towards this problem, that are expounded in articles published until 1936. Although its members strived to stay the closest, they could to the landmarks laid down by the Tractatus logico-philosophicus, some of its members broke with them in many respects. The need to admit the possibility of talking theoretically about language became more pressing as the works of Tarski and Godel began to exert an influence on the researches of its members. Two options emerged: talking about a language in another language (Hahn) or in the same language (Carnap). Hahn’s positions, despite their originality, stand close to those of Carnap, who presents in 1931 his meta-logical project. Disagreements with Waismann occured frequently. Neurath remained skeptical about such a development that could, according to him, lead back to metaphysical considerations. The protocols by Rosa Rand give us precious insights on the premises of this debate, symptomatic of the diversity of the positions and of the fruitfulness of the exchanges within the Vienna Circle at that time. However, this debate takes place in a broader setting, namely the discussion of the status of philosophical statements once the rejection of metaphysics is accomplished. The answers provided reflect strong dissenting currents within the circle. For Neurath, to conceive of philosophy as providing elucidations is mistaken. Science shall take the form of an encyclopedia, that contains heterogeneous discourses – exact formulated sentences, as well as piece of ordinary language – and is taken in a dynamic process. No discourse outside science can be accepted. For Schlick and Waismann, there is still room for philosophy as providing elucidations about language. For Carnap, the aim is to attain a logically suitable language for science; discussions in a natural language have only a provisional role, in order to attain an adequate language, in which the logic of science can be formulated. As the century draws to its close, how should we think of religion? Some see it as the survival in our midst of an outmoded, primitive way of thinking, while others accuse its critics of simply being blind to the meaning of religious belief. From a different perspective, the clash between belief and unbelief is not seen as a matter of identifying incoherent systems of thought, but as a clash between different demands made on us by divergent ways of looking (...) at the world. Criticisms will flow between these perspectives. There is, however, another kind of interest in this situation: an interest in giving just characterizations of these different voices, so that the nature of allegiances and oppositions to religion may be better understood. Simple epithelial keratins K8 and K18 are components of the intracellular cytoskeleton in the cells of the single‐layered sheet tissues inside the body. As members of the intermediate filament family of proteins, their function has been a matter for debate since they were first discovered. Whilst there is an indisputable case for a structural cell‐reinforcing function for keratins in the mutilayered squamous epithelia of external barrier tissues, some very different stress‐protective features now seem to be emerging for the simple epithelial (...) keratins. Even the emerging evidence of pathological mutations in K8/K18 looks very different from mutations in stratified epithelial keratins. K8/K18‐like keratins were probably the first to evolve and, whilst stratified epithelial (keratinocyte) keratins have diversified into a large group of keratins highly specialised for providing mechanical stability, the simple epithelial keratins have retained early features that may protect the internal epithelia from a broader range of stresses, including osmotic stress and chemical toxicity. The purpose of this research is to describe the brand image and consumer satisfaction of X Cafe. In addition, this research also describes the difference brand image perceived by satisfied customers and unsatisfied customers. Subject of this research contained 100 persons which included male and female. The data was analyzed using multivariate method with support from SPSS. The result of this research shows that the average score of X Cafe customer satisfaction is under satisfied score due to some unfulfilled hopes (...) toward X Cafe. The brand images perceived by X Café customers who feel satisfied are quiet ambience, good quality drinks, and relaxing place. On the contrary, the brand images perceived by unsatisfied customers are crowded ambience, expensive, and place for reading free newspaper and magazine. (shrink)

Für den renommierten Lehrer und Berater war die menschliche Selbstaufgegebenheit so zentral, dass wiederholt zu hören war, in Böckles Moraltheologie besitze der Glaube eine nur marginale Funktion. Die nachgelassenen Schriften Böckles, insbesondere einige der unveröffentlichten, widerlegen diesen Eindruck. Sie zeigen einen in der biblischen Theologie verankerten, ökumenisch offenen Theologen, der die geistesgeschichtlichen Weichenstellungen seiner Zeit theologisch interpretiert. Die Studie stellt die kognitive Genese Böckles vor dem Hintergrund der europäischen Zeitgeschichte dar. (...) Unter den Leitbegriffen Glaube - Ethik - Recht werden Vorträge und Publikationen Böckles zu Themen wie ”staatliche Grundwerte“ oder ”Forschungsfreiheit“ untersucht. L’objet de cet article est d’éclairer la pensée du philosophe et linguiste Wilhelm von Humboldt à travers l’usage qu’il fait de la notion d’imagination. Cette faculté, loin d’être secondaire, joue le rôle d’un critère de distinction entre les langues. Elle produit la grammaire dans sa dimension matérielle, à la fois sonore et symbolique. Nous montrons le cheminement de la pensée de Humboldt : dans un premier temps, il restreint le rôle de l’imagination à la création poétique. Il reconceptualise dans un (...) second temps le rôle des facultés humaines, intégrant l’imagination, en complémentarité avec l’entendement, dans la constitution des langues. La langue chinoise, sur laquelle il échange avec le sinologue Rémusat, et qu’il oppose aux langues classiques européennes, lui donne l’occasion de penser à nouveaux frais les places respectives de ces facultés. Nous analysons dans le détail la manière originale dont Humboldt, dans cette correspondance, pense le rapport entre grammaire et imagination pour faire droit à des manières radicalement différentes de «faire langue». Artificial Intelligence -powered products have started to permeate various spheres of our lives. One of the most controversial of such products is the sex robot, an application of the AI-integrated robotic technology in the domain of human sexual gratification. The aim of this research is to understand the general public’s receptiveness towards this controversial new invention. Drawing upon the social intuitionist model, we find that the fear of AI, emblematic of the broader anxiety of technology’s encroachment on the human sphere, (...) shapes the public’s receptiveness to sex robots. Perceived substitutability of sex robots for human-to-human sexual interactions mediates this relationship. Religiosity is found to moderate this mediated relationship. Our findings are first established with a cross-sectional study. A “big data” field study further validates them. The present research is one of the first empirical studies to examine the underlying psychology of the public’s receptiveness to sex robots. By doing so, we aim to provide relevant government and industry bodies with a better understanding of this important topic for more informed policy making, and to raise awareness of the significant social and ethical implications should sex robots become widely accepted and adopted. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the protein S100B level, cognitive dysfunction, and Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) in moderate traumatic brain injury patients. Thirty patients suffering from head injuries undergoing neurosurgery in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung, Indonesia, and who were considered eligible based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria participated in this double-blind experimental Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The treatment groups (COX-2) were assigned as COX2-I, COX2II, and COX3-IV, six patients in each group. (...) The treatment group was given another dose of sCOX-2 inhibitor 12 hours, 12 and 24 hours after the first dose, and 12, 24 and 36 hours after pre-induction sCOP-2 inhibitor was administered. The GOS score was obtained during the before the surgery and 1 month, 1.5 months, and 2 months postoperative days. The MMSE was performed preoperatively and then on the first to seventh day after the surgery. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in the protein level in all treatment groups including the control group, where the resulting p-value was less than 0.05. Moreover, the treatment group showed a faster time in reaching GOS 5 or be discharged from the hospital compared to the control. In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that the provision of 3 or 4 times of the sCox-2 inhibitor leads to the achievement of a score of 5, while the recovery of the cognitive dysfunction into the normal level is obtained when the SCox2 inhibitor is given 4 times. We provide a list of semiotic journals in the world anno 2023. Our article is an expanded follow-up on Kalevi Kull and Timo Maran’s list of semiotic journals from 2013. The article finds that in 2023 there are 66 active semiotic journals in the world; hence, 11 new journals have been launched since 2013. Furthermore, there are 19 semiotic journals currently registered in the SCImago Journal Ranking database (2021 data). The article traces the development of the registration during 1999–2021 and (...) finds that there has been a positive development in the period concerning the total number of citable documents and documents cited at least once, when we look at the semiotic journals as a whole. This is seen as an indication not only of the growth in the scientific output of the semiotic journals but also of an increase in their quality. Finally, in the period from 1964 to 2023 only nine semiotic journals (or 12 percent out of 75 journals) ceased publication. The article optimistically concludes that the development of the journals of semiotics in the world that has taken place during the last ten years points toward how the journals continue to be a stable platform for the future development of the semiotic field. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare is increasing in Indonesia, but faces challenges related to Indonesia’s communal and hierarchical cultural context. Ethical issues are becoming increasingly complex, not only in terms of the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence, but also in relation to humanization and care in doctor-patient relationships. The position of AI in healthcare is determined by doctors’ perceptions. This study captures doctors’ perceptions of the use of AI in healthcare services in relation to the principles of (...) bioethics and ethics of care, within the context of Indonesia’s culture. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth semi-structured interviews with twenty-five doctor participants practicing emergency services in Indonesia. The results revealed four spectrums of AI integration within the clinical autonomy of doctor: (1) as a doctor’s assistant/tool, (2) as a co-pilot with a specific role, (3) as a doctor’s discussion partner, and (4) as a reinforcement of doctor recommendations. These four spectrums reflect ethical issues between the basic principles of bioethics and the humanism of doctor-patient relationships influenced by communal and hierarchical culture. A collaborative approach between the basic principles of bioethics and the ethics of care is seen as more contextual to Indonesia’s communal and hierarchical culture, to minimize the risk of dehumanization. The practical implication of these findings is the need for training for doctors, not only about AI, but also ethics of care and empathetic communication. (shrink)

The World Health Organization has declared 2021–2030 the “Decade of Healthy Ageing”, aiming for the best quality of life through health as the population ages. Beyond healthy ageing, scientists are adopting artificial intelligence technologies for longevity science which can foreseeably enable humans to routinely live to 120 years and beyond. With such breakthroughs within reach, the challenges associated with longevity need to be considered, from the impact on the social system to the possibility of an international law right to longevity, (...) along with associated considerations such as on sustainability. Autism is a developmental disorder in children characterized by challenges in social interaction. This developmental disorder stems from severe, long-term neurobiological impairments, which significantly affect children's expressive language skills. Expressive language ability is defined as the capacity to convey one’s desires through agreed-upon gestures or symbols. This study aims to analyze the impact of using the Gratif Educational Play Tool (movement and education) based on occupational therapy on enhancing expressive language skills in children with autism. The research design employed is (...) a one-group pretest-posttest model, with the study population consisting of children with special needs at KB Cinta Harapan in Jepara. A sample of 25 children with autism was selected through purposive sampling. Intervention was conducted using the Gratif Educational Play Tool, specifically designed to facilitate motor and cognitive activities to stimulate expressive language abilities in children. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention expressive language tests, with results analyzed using the paired t-test to measure significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. The results showed a significant improvement in expressive language abilities among children with autism after receiving the Gratif-based occupational therapy intervention, with an increase of 15.72. This intervention proved effective in enhancing both verbal and non-verbal communication skills in children with autism, particularly in expressing their desires, emotions, and needs. The findings suggest that the Gratif Educational Play Tool can serve as an effective alternative medium to optimize the development of expressive language skills in children with autism within inclusive educational environments. Future research is recommended to incorporate a control group to further validate the effectiveness of this intervention on a broader scale. (shrink)

Critical discourse analysis has become an effective multidisciplinary approach to uncovering hidden ideologies and powers along with the changing times and the increasing prevalence of various discourses in society, both in the form of information written in text and distributed in the digital world. Discourse battles are commonplace in the context of life—as a form of dialectics and freedom to convey ideas. Researchers through this article discuss basic assumptions about the basic or main principles of critical discourse analysis developed by (...) Norman Fairclough and Ruth Wodak. The basic assumptions are that critical discourse analysis focuses on social issues, power relations are discursive, discourse shapes society and culture, discourse manages ideological works, discourse is historical, the relationship between text and society is mediated (discourse), discourse analysis is interpretive and explanatory, and discourse is a form of social action. The article also discusses three models of discourse analysis: the Sociocultural (Norman Fairclough), Socio-cognitive (Teun A. van Dijk), and Historical-Discourse (Ruth Wodak) models. Fairclough’s sociocultural model interprets text not only through the way objects are described but also through the relationships between objects that are defined. Meanwhile, Teun A. van Dijk’s socio-cognitive model emphasizes text, social cognition, and social context, forming a chain of analysis. Lastly, Ruth Wodak’s historical-discourse model puts historical aspects of discourse into his analysis. (shrink)

This study aims to identify and describe the regional innovations produced in Keerom Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia after the Coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, to analyze integrated regional service capacity indicators with a special focus on organizational performance indicators in integrated units that can be measured quantitatively and simply. In addition, to create an understanding of organizational performance in geographic areas. The method approach uses a mixed-methods description to tell the results of the study. Secondary data were analyzed in the form (...) of innovation proposals for as many as 108 regional innovations. The analysis used adopts local service capacity which was developed with additional indicators of innovation. Local Service Indicators used to consist of Leadership and Governance, Structure and System, Human Resources, Financial Management, Program Management, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan, Partnerships, External Relations and Networks, Knowledge Management, and Organizational Innovation. Local services are built using spreadsheet tools to make the process easier to use. The result is that organizational services in regional innovation as a whole still reach a score of 52% on a 100% scale giving the result that organizational services have been carried out amid the limitations of local governments which are characterized by limited knowledge needed, not yet optimally prepared programs, low organizational acceleration. For regional innovation, the harmonization process between planning, evaluation, and monitoring is not yet optimal. (shrink)

The development of criminology has shifted the struggle for human rights to a ‘green’ hue. As a growing concept, the value of ecocide has yet to be accepted by various countries, both nationally and regionally. The international criminal law system has not formally accommodated the idea of ecocide. This paper aims to strengthen conceptual investigation in legal science, specifically examining the causes of the non-adoption to date of the proposed amendment to the Rome Statute to include a definition of ecocide (...) as the fifth core crime. We employ legal epistemology, drawing on philosophical, synchronic, and diachronic approaches, to demonstrate how a significant phenomenon can become incorporated into legal rules. This paper serves as a vital guide to revealing how the contextualisation of aspects of environmental damage has a considerable influence on indicating the threat of ecocide. The results suggest that national-level sociological, cultural, economic, and political factors significantly influence differences in standards for environmental damage and the vulnerability of groups that experience social casualties. We argue that the amendments’ stalled progress of the Rome Statute is part of a weak understanding of the process of internalising facts and events into international law. For this reason, we strongly recommend support from International Criminal Court (ICC) member countries, including legal experts, in constructing the juridical limits of ecocide indicators that are generally accepted and follow applicable principles of international law.
